Backstube Leuchtkraft Basel

"Nordlicht" (northern light) is the caption of the great spread mural art at the Meret- Oppenheim Strasse in Basel, it's the work of Lukas Oberer & Raphael Borer.
The street doesn't seem very appearing. Somehow it even disappears between Güterstrasse and the train tracks of SBB railway station - Neverland. Depending on daytime the colour spectrum of the multiple angled facade seems to twinkle like a pale ghost light.

"Nordlicht" is what Lukas Oberer (28) and Raphael Borer (26) call the scenic mural art.
The two artist worked on the 250 square meter big wall for five days- with spray diffuser and aerosol can. As a creative place they are resident in their studio. "Backstube Leuchtkraft".
This is where they are working on canvases and planning new mural concepts.

The duo is specialised in abstract mural art. Borer and Oberer are working hand in hand; they see their work as a collaboration.
Most of the the time one starts at on end of the tableau and the other one on the different corner. Give and Take.

The mural concept arose from the challenge to break out of the format and restricted feeling of a canvas, to grant the forms and colours the space that they actually deserve!

At the project "Nordlicht" they first digitalised the existing canvases then matched and edit them. Only then they transferred it onto the facade. They pulled fine lines of adhesive tape across the walls to divide it into different spaces. Now they were able to colour the large scaled parts with the help of the spray diffuser. Followed by the precision work of spraying the shades, lights and fadings.
The result: The mural art seems like abstract architecture painting; room appears on the two dimensional space.

Lukas Oberer and Raphael Borer understand their artwork as the inner need- connected with the aim to make people happy through inspired colouration.
